Back to The Future

1960’s design, millenium technology..

We take you back to 2020, post-lockdown (the real one, when everyone listened and stayed indoors!), when we worked on this stunning Morgan Plus 8.

We’ve known about this car for a long time, it belongs to the father of one of our good friends. Les, the owner, is a keen car enthusiast, and this Morgan was his dream car as a young lad. Fast forward to 2002 (20yrs ago!) and Les fulfilled his childhood dream and took delivery of this very car, that he was fortunate to spec every detail of. Wind the clock forward to two years ago, and Les asked us if we could help him - the car had accumulated some paint damage typically associated with years of washing, and it was feared the shell would need a respray to restore it to its former glory.

After 18yrs the paint didn’t look as bad as I’d imagined it to be, as shown with this 50:50

The very latest abrasive technology..

Looks like wet paint following our Paint Correction process..

This car is very much the definition of a ‘cherished vehicle’. Les had taken great care of it for 18 years, with the wash process being a routine part of the process. The car has toured Europe, and been to every corner of the UK… and yet you wouldn’t know it such is the level of care its been given. We would like to take the credit for those amazing wire wheels, and whilst yes we did give them a clean during its detail, the real hard work had been done by Les; who removed the wheels two or three times a year, every year, to thoroughly clean and protect them.

Dreamy looking wire wheels..

It was decided while in our care, that the best course of protection wasn’t to ceramic coat it, but to apply a spray sealant which could easily be topped up (wait.. what?!). This might seem strange, but it makes perfect sense when you enjoy looking after the car yourself, and the addition of a fresh layer of wax can be quite satisfying to some (not to mention it’s a great Saturday afternoon job). Ceramic coatings negate the need for such routine upkeep, and thus can sometimes take the enjoyment out of caring for your own car, despite all the benefits they have over sealants or traditional waxes.

There you have it, an 18yr old car, based on 60yr old design, detailed using the technology of today.
