Rally Legend

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, or as many simply refer to it, the Mitsubishi Evo, needs no introduction. These cars ran riot in the WRC in the 1990’s. Tommi Makinen won 4 WRC’s in a row in one, making him one of the most successful rally drivers in history. Makinen took up leadership of the Toyota Gazoo Racing rally team in 2017, and has direct input into the development of the now much sought after GR Yaris!

With the history of the Evo aside, we had this particular example in for our Enhancement Detail and upgraded ceramic coatings in the form of Labocosmetica STC. During the 90’s, Japanese cars quite infamously suffered from UV damage to their paint, in part due to having no clearcoat. What does having no clearcoat mean? The paint is solid paint (single stage) colour right the way to the basecoat – when polishing this means the colour coat is physically removed and transfers onto the polishing pad! This can be quite unnerving if you’ve never worked with this paint type before.

In a bid to try and reduce the aging effect this paint type suffers from, we have applied Labocosmetica’s STC ceramic coating. This will offer some protection against UV damage, which will help prevent fading over time. These days a car like this is not in daily use, and this one lives indoors – all of this will also help reduce damage to a minimum.
